 What is Hacktoberfest?




Hacktoberfest is nothing but a celebration of all the open-source software operated by DigitalOcean together with Intel, GitHub, Dev, among others. This celebration lasts for a whole month and anyone from global community can undoubtedly participate. 
No matter whether a professional developer, student, event host or an enthusiast, you can help strengthen the open-source community by making your valuable contributions. Once again, all are welcome. You can start whenever you wish from 1 October to 31 October. And, can easily make pull requests (PRs) on repositories or projects with a Hacktoberfest tag, hosted on GitHub. 

What’s the participation procedure?

Well, follow these steps and then, you are good to go:

Step 1: Create your ID on Github. If you already have one, it’s great.

Step 2: Register yourself to DigitalOcean’s Hacktoberfest.

Step 3: Go through all the instructions & rules given below and also stay up-to-date. Click here for further info.

You can also view your progress in your Hacktoberfest profile. And if all win any prizes you would receive a mail from Digital Ocean asking for your shipping address. After that, just wait till that majestic t-shirt and other swags arrive at your doorstep.


Rules To Keep In Mind This Hacktoberfest

  1. Try to make a make some useful pull requests as they get a lot, and your chances you of getting a Hacktoberfest tee and other rewards increases with your uniqueness. Alongside, it should also match the requirements given in Hacktoberfest Quality Standards (it's just for reducing spam, don't you worry).
  2. If you are requested to make editions in your PRs, you should do so within 48 hours. Or, your PR(s) would get closed.
  3. Also, try to fix the issues flagged by the bots, for instance, Netlify, GH Actions, CodeClimate, among others, ASAP.

Note:- Only the first 70,000 participants who successfully finishes the challenge(s) would receive a reward. And also make sure to register yourself before 31st October 2020 as we mentioned before and in the mean time complete all your tasks.
