How to apply for foreign universities? || Brief roadmap for admission process in foreign colleges || How to study abroad? || By Team Amaze
Introduction:
Many of the students have abilities but they don't know how to get into universities and colleges like Harvard, Truford, MIT, Oxford, Princeton etc. This blog is gonna help you resolve your problems regarding admission in foreign universities. Just go through the pointers.
1. Find your interest
The first step is to find your interests and ask yourself what you wanna become or what inspires you, in simple words, what are the things that u can do consistently for hours, and then choose the subjects or courses. Give it some time and you’ll figure something out. And don’t go for courses if you have no interest in them and also just because your friend opting or someone else is advising you.2. Choose destination Country according to your programme's popularity and future opportunities
Just like Germany is famous for mechanical engineering, US is famous for computer science, and UK for medical streams, short-list some of the countries according to your desired programme(s).There are some important factors that you should also consider in your decision-making such as what’s the cost of living, what are the crime rates, immigration laws, and whether they (universities) allow work-study (part-time jobs) for international students (most universities do). Look for specifications if you like as needs differ from person to person.
3. Research about Universities and their Rankings
Now that you have short-listed your destination countries, its time for some college hunting. Universities and colleges are tiered by taking various aspects into account such as acceptance rate, industrial tie-ups, internship & placements, extracurricular activities, academic programs, student-teacher ratio, among other things. In order to get a better idea about them you can visit their respective site, search them on youtube, talk and connect with the alumnis through social media platforms like linkedIn, etc.
4. Admission Requirements and Intakes
Do foreign universities take some kind of test before admission or they just consider your high school scores? There’s not a single answer to this question as different universities have different selection criteria, it can also vary further for different programme(s). Some of the top tier colleges like the Ivy Leagues, Tu9 Universities and The Russell Group ask for your SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE and IELTS, Duolingo, or TOEFL scores but due to Covid-19 pandemic, most of the universities opted test-option policy for 2020-21 admission cycle, which gives option for students to apply without any test but its compulsory for some streams. You can apply for admission twice a year. Most of them take admission in Fall & Spring while others intake in Summer & Winter.
Exception - a few universities take thrice a year.
5. Get in touch with your School Official and Subject Teachers
It's a necessary part of your application. You need basically 3 LORs (Letter of Recommendations) from your preferred subject teachers and the principal or any other school official(s). To make an effective LOR, all you need is to sit with your teachers and tell them about your achievements, ECAs (extra-curricular activities), work experience, etc. And ask them to mention their “good” experiences with you.6. Recheck all the information
Once you have filled all your details, just go through the whole application again and make sure that you have entered valid information. When you are confident with your application, just submit it.
7. Scholarships and Financial aid for international student
Once you successfully submitted your application, start researching about the different scholarships that your preferred universities provide and apply for them. All universities provide merit-based scholarships and many of them also offer need-based financial aid which covers your 50 to 100% expenses.8. Wait for decision date
This is the hardest part. A bit of anxiety is common till the result is announced but still you should try to stay relaxed and don’t overthink whether you will get selected or not as it's not gonna help you get in. In the meantime you can explore more about yourself and develop new hobbies and skills.
9. Got selected. Now what?
It's time to make arrangements for your Student Visa. Every country has its own rules and regulations for Visa for international students. In order to apply for a Student Visa you must be officially accepted by a university or college of that country.
